Author Guidelines

 

Scope of journal

The GOVARESH Journal is the scientific quarterly of the Iranian Association of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. It is published in English and Persian language with abstract both in Farsi and English.  Articles published in this journal are indexed for Scopus, IndexCopernicus, CINAHL, CABI publishing , DOAJ, EBSCO,IMEMR, ISC, IranMedex , MagIran and SID. Authors wishing to submit an article for publication in this journal are asked to follow the instructions below.

Preparation of Manuscripts:

General Instructions: The Editors have the right to make editorial corrections and additional changes with the acknowledgement and approval of the corresponding author. If sent through conventional mail. The preferred word processing format is microsoft word. The disk should carry the text, references, figures, legends, and table headings of the paper. Diagrams photographs, and other tabular material should be supplied separately. Please do not include figures and tables in the digital format of the main manuscript. Manuscripts should be double-spaced on A4 paper only, with 2.5 cm margins on all sides. All abbreviations must be spelled out the first time they are used, followed by the abbreviated form in parentheses. Units of measurement must be complied with the International system of units (SI).

Original Article:

Original article should be designed: Title page, Abstract, Background, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgements, References, Tables and figures. The title page must include the following: title: full first name, surname, affiliations of each contributor; each authors, highest academic degree, the name, full postal address, telephone and fax numbers, and email address of the contributor who will deal with correspondence; key words, and the total number of pages and figures being submitted. A structured abstract (with the subheadings, Background, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusion should appear on the second page of the manuscript and should not exceed 250-300 words.

Review Article:

Review articles are solicited by the editor, but Govaresh journal will also accept submitted reviews. The authors of review article are invited to contact the Editorial Office before preparing a review article. The journal will only consider unsolicited review articles from authors with substantial research background in the subject. Both solicited and unsolicited review articles undergo peer review and editorial  processing as original article.

Case Reports:

Case Reports should be arranged as follows: Title page, Abstract (non structured, not exceeding 125-150 words), Background, Case report, Discussion, References, and figures. Necessary documentations of the cases like pathology reports, laboratory test reports, and imagines should be included in the submission package.

Letters to the Editor:

Correspondence will be considered for publication if it contains constructive criticism on previously published articles in the GOVARESH Journal, the authors of which will have the right of reply. The length of the reply should not exceed 700 words.

Brief Report:

It describes significant developments in the field of Gastrointestinal tract. It should include up to 1500 words with Title page, Abstract, Discussion and References.

References:

References should be identified in the text by Arabic numerals and numbered in the order cited. All references should be compiled at the end of article in the order cited in the Vancouver style. Complete information should be given for each Reference including the title, abbreviated journal title and page numbers; with a maximum of 6 authors.

Personal communications: Manuscripts in preparation and other unpublished data should not be cited in the reference list but may be mentioned in parentheses in the text. Authors should get permission from the source to cite unpublished data. Titles of journal should be abbreviated in accordance with the Index.

Note: list all authors when there are 6 or fewer; when 7 or more, list the first 6, followed by et al.

Keywords:

For Indexing purposes, each submitted article should include three to ten keywords chosen from the medical subject heading (MeSH).

Figures and Tables:

Figures and tables should be kept to a necessary minimum and their information should not be duplicated in the text. Figures must be included with disk submission either as JPEG or TIFF. Do not embed the figures in the manuscript file.Tables should be typed on separate sheet, be numbered (with Arabic numbers), and have a title. The position of figures and tables should be indicated with the manuscript text. Computer-generated images and photographs must have acceptable quality (at 300 dpi or higher).

Ethical requirements and author's responsibility:

Author(s) should certify that neither this manuscript nor one with substantially similar content under their authorship has been published or being considered for publication elsewhere in any language, except as described in the covering letter .

If the work involves experimentation on living animals, the author(s) must provide evidence that the study was performed in accordance with local ethical guidelines. If the study involves human beings, the author(s) must include a statement that the study was approved by the local ethical committee and that informed consent was obtained from the study participants. For those investigator  who do not have formal ethics review committees, the principles outlined in the declaration of Helsinki should be followed.(http://www.wma.net/e/ethicsunit/helsinki.htm).

For reports of randomized controlled trial authors  should  refer  to the CONSORT statement (http://www.consort-statement.org/) . In manuscripts  that  report research  involving new treatments  or  procedures  in humans, authors must indicate that  informed  consent  to take part  in  the  research  was  obtained from the participants or  their legal guardians.

Authorship:

Due to Uniform Requirements for Manuscript Submitted to Medical Journals "an Author" is generally considered to be someone who meets the conditions 1, 2, and 3. " 1) substantial contributions to conception and design, acquisition of data, or analysis and interpretation of data; 2) drafting the article or revising it critically for important intellectual content; and 3) final approval of the version to be published."

Plagiarism:

The authors are not allowed to utilize verbatim text of previously published papers or manuscripts submitted elsewhere.

Conflict of Interest:

We request all the authors to inform us about any kinds of "Conflict of Interest" (such as financial, personal, political, or academic) that would potentially affect their judgment

Author's Agreement Form:

All authors should read the Author's Agreement Form carefully and submit a completed one. These will be sent via email, and must be duly corrected and return  with  in 48 hours. Absent author(s) should arrange for a colleague to access the e-mail and reply the Agreement Form.(Available Form  http://ojs.hbi.ir/index.php/dd/announcement).

Submission:

Manuscripts must have been written in English and Persian. It is assumed that manuscripts are exclusively submitted to the GOVARESH Journal, have not been previously published elsewhere (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture, review or thesis), and are not under consideration by any other journal. In the covering letter, one author should be specified as the "corresponding author" and all other authors should personally sign the covering letter.

Authors are responsible for all statements made in their work. The Editorial Board has the right to insert any necessary changes so that the manuscript is harmonized with the editorial framework of the journal. Accepted manuscripts are the properties of GOVARESH Journal. All submissions to GOVARESH Journal should contain a completed copy of the signed covering letter containing the copyright agreement.

Manuscripts submission to GOVARESH Journal can be handed in the following  pathway:

1- Online submission: The online submission is available on the journal's web site (www. govaresh.org). Once you have prepared your manuscript according to the instructions, please go to the online submission system. First-time users must click "Register" on the navigation menu  at the top of the screen. The system will accept automatically your user name and password. Detailed guidelines for authors and reviewers are available at the submission site.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
